The LEHR Advantage: PROPANE - Only LEHR Has It.
Propane is a clean, eco friendly alternative fuel. Propane can be up to five times more efficient than traditional fuels, resulting in less energy waste and better use of our planet’s resources. In addition, studies have shown that using propane in applications like a grass trimmer produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) than many other fuels, making it an attractive option to help cut carbon emissions in lawn and garden tools.
Originating mainly from natural gas production, propane is a non-toxic, non-poisonous gas that does not contaminate soil or water. It is already in use as an eco friendly option by millions of Americans each and every day in furnaces, water heaters, air conditioners, fireplaces, appliances and outdoor grills.
According to the president and CEO of The Propane Education and Research Council (PERC), consumers, businesses and municipalities using propane can be assured that they are choosing a fuel that helps to reduce carbon emissions without compromising performance. At the same time, because over 85% of the propane used in this country is produced domestically, choosing propane as a fuel option is an eco friendly way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

THE TRUTH ABOUT PROPANE:
PROPANE IS CLEAN AND EFFICIENT
- Propane has long been recognized as a green, eco friendly alternative energy source.
- Propane is an approved alternative fuel listed in both the Clean Air Act of 1990 and the National Energy Policy Act of 1992.
- Converting small utility engines like the ones in grass trimmers and gas trimmers to burn propane instead of gasoline can reduce emissions of ozone precursors by one third and increase fuel economy by 14%.
- Propane engines are eco friendly alternatives to gasoline engines.
PROPANE IS AN ECO FRIENDLY FUEL
- Propane exhaust creates 60 percent to 70 percent less smog-producing hydrocarbons than gasoline, according to studies by an independent research laboratory.
- Propane cuts emissions of toxins and carcinogens like benzene and toluene by up to 96%, compared to gasoline, according to studies by a nationally recognized, independent research and development laboratory.
- Propane does not contain Class I or II ozone-depleting chemicals (40 CFR Part 82).
- Propane is not listed as a marine pollutant by DOT (49CFR Part 171).
PROPANE HAS BUILT-IN SAFETY PROPERTIES
- Propane is not harmful to soil or water.
- Propane won't ignite when in the air unless the source of ignition reaches 940° F.
- Propane is non-toxic and produces minimal emissions.
- Propane is released from a pressured container in vapor form, so it cannot be ingested like other gasoline or alcohol fuels.

GASOLINE OVERVIEW Approximately 87 tons of smog-producing pollution (the equivalent of fumes from 1,000,000 cars) are created daily by fumes from filling gas trimmers, grass trimmers, lawn mowers and other lawn and garden tools. Harmful fumes are also created from spilled gasoline and from transporting and storing gasoline cans with vents that have been left open.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, homeowners spill an average 17 million gallons of gasoline seasonally when refilling their grass trimmers and other lawn and garden tools.
THE TRUTH ABOUT GASOLINE
- Difficult to purchase and use
- Inconvenient and dangerous to store
- 17 million gallons spilled using lawn and garden tools
- Cancer causing emissions
- Toxic to soil and ground water
- More wear and tear on engines
- Increased dependency on foreign oil imports
REGULATORY ISSUES Stricter Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations have been enacted to reduce pollutants from powered lawn and garden tools. On September 4, 2008, the EPA released new emission standards for small engines like the ones found in a gas trimmer, a grass trimmer and other lawn and garden tools that will take full effect in 2010 and 2011. When fully implemented the standard will reduce annual emissions by 600,000 tons of hydrocarbons,130,000 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx), 5,500 tons of direct particulate matter, and 1.5 million tons of carbon monoxide (CO). The LEHR Eco Trimmer is the first grass trimmer to exceed these standards, offering consumers an eco friendly jumpstart on a line of home and garden tools that benefit the environment.
